The Vagina Monologues

December 2005
Ahh, the theater. (Or theatre, depending on your level of pretentiousness) I really had no interest in it before my internship with the Great River Shakespeare Festival in the summer of 2005, but after that, I had the bug. The creative fusion of the visual and performance arts really seemed to raise my curtains. I became the only Theater Graphic Designer that I had ever heard of, and that meant doing as many posters and playbills for Winona State student productions as I could. One of the most “famous” (relative to the bubble that is Winona State anyway) was my campaign for the Vagina Monologues.

Twelfth Night

July 2005
My days with the Great River Shakespeare Festival are ones I will always cherish. They gave me my first internship and my first real job in the business. While most of my work was based on the designs of others, the material for the Acting Apprentice Company show was totally original. The poster to the right was not the one actually used, and while I don’t usually post speculative work on this website, this design proved so popular amongst the company that I ended up printing several for people who really wanted one. It has even stayed with me to this day, influencing the design of this very website.
